Music Problems

Fix common music issues: Nevi can't join voice, no audio, queue problems, songs not found, and playback cutting out.

Nevi can't join voice channel

If Nevi says it can't join your voice channel, the issue is almost always permissions. Nevi needs two specific Discord permissions in the voice channel:

  • Connect - Allows Nevi to join the voice channel. Without this, it literally cannot enter.
  • Speak - Allows Nevi to play audio in the voice channel. Without this, it can join but produces no sound.

How to fix

  1. Right-click the voice channel and select "Edit Channel"
  2. Go to the "Permissions" tab
  3. Check if Nevi's role (or @everyone) has Connect and Speak set to allow (green checkmark)
  4. Make sure there are no explicit denies (red X) on Nevi's role

Note: Channel-level permission overrides take priority over server-level role permissions. Even if Nevi's role has Connect and Speak at the server level, a channel override can still block it.

No audio / can't hear music

If Nevi joined the voice channel but you can't hear anything, try these steps in order:

1. Check you're in the same VC

You must be in the same voice channel as Nevi. If you're in a different VC, you won't hear it.

2. Check your Discord audio settings

Make sure your output device is correct in User Settings > Voice & Video > Output Device. Also check that you haven't muted Nevi by right-clicking on its name in the VC member list.

3. Check the bot's volume

Right-click Nevi in the voice channel member list and check the user volume slider. Also try /volume 100 to make sure the bot-level volume isn't turned down.

4. Stop and replay

Run /stop to completely clear the queue, then use /play to start fresh. This resets the audio connection.

Queue not working

If the queue seems stuck or songs aren't playing in order, try clearing it and starting fresh:

  1. Run /stop to clear the queue and disconnect Nevi
  2. Use /play to start playing again from scratch
  3. Add songs to the queue as normal

Also check if /repeat is set to track mode, which would cause the same song to loop instead of progressing through the queue.

Song not found

If Nevi can't find a song, try these approaches:

Be more specific

Include the artist name along with the song title. For example, instead of just "Yesterday," try "Yesterday Beatles."

Use a direct URL

If search isn't finding what you want, paste the direct YouTube URL instead. This bypasses the search entirely and plays the exact video.

Check availability

Some videos may be region-locked, age-restricted, or private. If a specific video won't play, try a different upload of the same song.

Playback cuts out

If music keeps cutting out or stuttering during playback, the issue is usually related to network connectivity or Discord's voice servers.

Try a different voice region

Edit your voice channel and change the region override to a different server. Go to Channel Settings > Overview > Region Override and pick a region closer to you.

Restart playback

Use /stop and then /play again to establish a fresh audio connection.

Check server load

If many users in many servers are using music simultaneously, there may be temporary performance issues. Try again in a few minutes.
